Learn to love your curly hair
Written by Jeffrey Goldenstein
The chilly weather has inspired me to begin daydreaming about sunny days, tropical vacations and the added leisure that oftentimes accompanies the change of season that is upon us soon.    Many of my clients who are blessed with curly textured hair have had a revelation of sorts in regards to what they want to dedicate their time to.  Many have decided to ditch the flat irons and develop a relationship with a diffuser (if even that). Suddenly, those who have long sported sleek looks that take time, effort and a serious toll on the health of the hair are rethinking things.   I'm so pleased to see that lots of them are replacing their tedious routines in favor of natural curls, beachy waves and a carefree attitude.

How to manage curly hair?

Embrace and love your curly hair. Find your inner curl! While many women struggle with embracing their natural texture, there is a myriad of benefits in doing so.  Time, which most of us never seem to have enough of, is one of the main points that women in my chair say is a deciding factor in making the jump to their new look.   Also, any of us who spend hours flat ironing their textured hair only to step outside into the Atlanta humidity know that it is a battle we oftentimes cannot win.   These factors, along with various other elements have made "simplifying" our lives all the more appealing.

So I ask you to imagine yourself greeting the change of season with a new outlook about your personal styling regimen.  If you struggle to maintain a look that simply doesn't come naturally, maybe it's time to try something new.    Getting a haircut that is conducive to both natural and styled looks is a good "no commitment" starting point.   A technically superior cut along with a little product can create an effortlessly appealing new look.  So ladies, take a chance and embrace the curly haired goddess that lives within you.   You may find that what you have been fighting all along can set you apart from the rest and turn heads along the way.

Nailing style
Written by Nikole Morrow-Pettus
Happy New Year Everyone!

Over the course of the past few weeks I have focused my attention on nail polishes and what the current trends are in manicured nails.  I personally do not paint my fingernails because brush cleaner will take it right off. I do, however, go crazy on my toes with fun colors.

What I have noticed are women in our salons gravitating towards the classic white-tipped French manicure.  Do we really believe that the French wear their nails with white tips?  This style of manicure has become such a common style, and I (as well as most of the really stylish ladies I know) truly do not comprehend it.  If what you seek is the appearance of a bare and clean nail, wear blush tones, or depending on your nail bed color, tan or creams.  I have learned to embrace darker nail polishes for the hands, and I think a vampy cherry-black on short nails looks amazing.  Looking ahead towards the spring season, begin looking for your signature color.  The brand OPI consistently and successfully puts collections together that mimic the fashions that are current for the season.

“And now, a little history lesson.  Nail polish was invented 5,000 years ago by the Ming Dynasty.  Chinese royalty wore colored nails as a reflection of the current dynasty (gold and silver during the Chou, red and black during the Ming, etc).  Queen Nefertiti wore ruby red and Cleopatra wore rust red, but the women of the lower classes were permitted to use only very pale colors.” – taken from “The One Hundred” by Nina Garcia

So my queens…  Let us get away from white tipped nails and really wear nail polish!

Where are you going?
Written by Nikole Morrow-Pettus

I am often asked where I am going by both friends and associates because of my work attire and I usually have a witty comeback like, "I dressed up for you." And during the holiday season I try my hardest to increase the frequency of these compliments as a sense of personal pride.   Clothes and accessories are pieces of art to me, and I approach each and every outfit with energy and excitement.  Simply stated, "I love the art of dressing."

This holiday season, I implore you to dress like the person you aspire to be.  Every day go a little bit above and beyond your usual routine.  Wearing something you would dress in for a special dinner or an important interview is a great start.  Do this consistently throughout the month of December and see how the compliments roll in along with the excitement and cheer  of the holidays.

For the gentlemen, wearing a tie or a personally tailored jacket will make a great impression.  For the ladies,  velvet, or a sparkly shirt.  Personally, I love plaid for this season and simply can not get enough of it.  A great outfit paired with a chic updo will do amazing things for your image and conveys to others what a "put together" person you are.

Simply stated, no matter what you decide to do with your wardrobe and your image, make it special and put some effort into it.   This extra effort will be noticed and you too will soon be able to respond to the compliment of "where are you going?" with you own witty remark.

Happy Holidays-
