Model Call for October

openmodelcall2009fb

We will be hosting an OPEN MODEL CALL for models to use in an upcoming photo-shoot in mid October.   We are looking for women with hair below their shoulders who are willing to have their hair colored and styled. This call is for a specific shoot, however we do have other events that we need various models for throughout the year.

Wendy's Makeover
Wendy’s Makeover-
wendyb4webwendylo4web
The team at Van Michael Salon in Buckhead were very excited to be working with Wendy and having her trust them to do a mini-makeover for her.  After a thorough consultation about face shape, skin tone, eye color, body shape & lifestyle Shane, Ron & Jae Marie all came to the consensus that they wanted to create a more sophisticated sexy look for her, with her eyes being the anchor for this transformation.

Ron started the process by darkening the base color of her hair to make the eyes pop and warming her color all over so her hair would appear rich & shiny.  Top accentuate the “pop” of her eyes Ron framed the face creating more weight in the hair and directing more attention to her eyes.

Wendy’s hair is really fine so to create weight & volume with the color Ron added a few inconspicuous medium blonde panels for interest & volume to show off the layers that Shane would create in the cut.

Shane brought the length of Wendy’s hair up four inches and graduated the back to give the appearance of more volume.  He layered the top for more fullness and added side-swept fringe to create a disheveled seductive modern appearance.

To bring all the focus of where the team wanted it on Wendy, Jae Marie went to performing her art. She shaped her brows, which is a must for any makeover because a great brow creates the perfect frame for the focal point.  A high arch created an instant eyelift.  Learning through the consultation about Wendy’s lifestyle (getting up way too early) the team learned she is not a big makeup kind of person so JaeMarie wanted everything to be soft and beautiful, with the focus on the eyes and a softer lip.

After all was said and done the team achieved a sexy, sophisticated look that is beautiful yet matches the personality of this fun young woman.

Live onstage Photo shoot

Here is the video of the live photoshoot we did at Congress.  It gives you a little perspective of what it is like to be on stage.

Minneapolis Before & After

My experience at the Van Michael (Before and After) photoshoot.

What an exciting weekend! The team was looking forward to transforming pretty girls with long boring hair and giving them short, salon friendly cuts with a progressive edge.

The cutters: Jeffrey, Daniel, Brandon, and Sevin.
The colorists: David, Natalie and her assistant Justine (Tiny)
The make up artist: Leslie (Miami salon)
The photographer: the one and only... BABAK
Also, the wisdom of Van himself to keep all of his nutballs on the same creative page.

Day 1: Prep went smoothly. The cutting team and color team worked together like a well oiled machine. We concentrated on accentuating the models face shapes. After cutting off a lot of hair, we finished the day on time, around five o'clock. Babak arrived and we were off to celebrate a good day and plan for tomorrow.

Day 2: Photo shoot. Despite the "hurry up and wait" aspect of a shoot, the day rolled along nicely. Working on the set with Babak is a unique experience. Imagine mixing the energy of a case of Red Bull and giving it a Mötley Crüe soundtrack and you have a feel for the day. I would imagine that there were as many pictures taken of Babak and the team as there were of our lovely models :) Babak loves what he does, and it shows. At the end of the day, the results equaled perfection!

What more do you need? Good cuts, good color, make up, and ping pong. (That is a whole other story)

In the end, we all walked away feeling as if we had an enjoyable and productive weekend as a team. My personal highlights include in depth team building with two great colorists, a handful of edgy haircutters, a make-up artist and friend I rarely get to see, and a photographer that could quite possibly need Ritalin.

Did I mention the outstanding hair?? Can't wait until you see the finished product.

Photoshoot Day 2

Babak flew in from Canada to shoot some of our color entries for NAHA this year as well as some Editorial pieces for the upcoming season.

After a long prep day on Saturday, we spent the entire day at Encyclomedia’s studio on Dekalb Ave on Sunday. If you are looking for a great place to shoot in ATL, this is the place hands down. The lighting went well and after a few test shots we were on our way. After a long 10 hours we came away with several shots that will define.

FYI, if you do not feed the models , they will eat the props, especially if they are Pixie Stix!
