Joey Hooten
Joey has been a force in the hair industry since 2004, establishing herself as an icon in color education. With an undeniable passion for her craft, she has graced some of the industry’s most prestigious stages, from Aveda Congress to Master Jam, captivating audiences with her expertise and artistry. Her work has not only adorned the pages of top publications like Tribute and Jezebel but has also served as a source of inspiration for countless professionals striving for mastery in the art of color. Through education, creativity, and innovation, Joey continues to shape the future of hair color, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Ashley McCarty
Ashley is a celebrated industry leader known for her technical expertise, innovative curriculum development, and dynamic stage presence. With nearly two decades of experience, she has been honing her craft since 2006 after graduating from the prestigious Aveda Institute in Minneapolis. Her passion for pushing creative boundaries has made a lasting impact on the world of hair artistry. In 2021, her talent and vision were recognized on a grand scale when she earned a nomination for Hair Color Video of the Year at the Hairbrained Video Awards—cementing her reputation as a true trendsetter in the industry. Whether educating fellow professionals or inspiring through her artistic work, Ashley continues to shape the future of hair color and education.

Sean Bruneau
Sean Bruneau
Director of Cutting Education, Van Michael Salons
With 23 years of experience in the hair industry, Sean Bruneau is a seasoned hairstylist and the Director of Cutting Education at Van Michael Salons. His passion for hair began at age 15, inspired by both an arts-driven household and the rebellious spirit of punk counterculture.
After a formative experience touring Europe at 18, Sean enrolled at the Aveda Institute and quickly joined Van Michael Salons, where he has spent the last 19 years. Over the past 17 years, Sean has dedicated himself to education, mentoring the next generation of stylists and sharing his expertise in hair shows across the country.
Beyond education, Sean continues to work with his clients while balancing family life with two daughters and his passion for music in his band. His commitment to inspiring and elevating those around him remains his greatest driving force, whether in the salon, on stage, or in the classroom.

Kenneth Dawson
From kitchen beautician to award-winning hairdresser, he started perfecting his craft in hair and wardrobe styling at the young age of 14. His talents were put to work for various high school functions, such as: picture days, graduations, school dances, and even the proms. He attended the Aveda Institute of Minnesota before carrying his skills to Atlanta for work at the world-renowned Van Michael Salon, where he currently is an educator and international hair stylist. Kenneth has styled hair for many charity events, featured in magazines, works on editorial photo shoots, commercial/ add shoots, couture fashion week, and has obtained a spotlight in New York Fashion week.
He earned a spot as a platform artist on Van Michael show team, an opportunity that allowed him to perform demonstrations in front of the broader hair industry; at the MidAmerica hair show, Fredrick’s Aveda institute, the North America Hairdressers Awards, Aveda Congress, Aveda Milan love festival, and the European Aveda show.
Kenneth is now specializing as a cut and texture educator for Van Michael, and a texture professional at Aveda
His momentum for progress in his career has awarded him three Aveda Catwalk for Water Awards, and several Van Michael Best Costume and Hair Awards, nominated for Southeast hairdresser awards, and nominated for North American hairdresser awards. Being among the best in the business he was dubbed “Magic Hands,” an ode to his raw and untamed creative talents. His magical touch has long-proven that there are no limits to what he can achieve.

Nevada Blue
Nevada Blue’s first love is hair. With 21 years of experience, she has mastered working with all textures, from straight to coily, creating innovative and artistic designs that push the boundaries of hair as an art form. Currently serving as Co-Texture Director at Van Michael Salon and a Texture Professional on the Aveda Texture Team, Nevada is dedicated to sharing her expertise and inspiring others.
Her work has been featured in Jezebel magazine, Hairbrained, Aveda’s first Texture Jam, and Aveda’s Congress Hair Show. As a member of the Artistic Show Team at Van Michael Salon, she regularly submits her visionary creations to prestigious competitions such as NAHA.
Nevada finds her greatest joy in helping others reach their full potential, whether through classroom education or captivating stage presentations. Her mission is to blend color and texture seamlessly while fostering creativity and inclusivity in the hair industry.
